An overview of on-going development activities for a thrust steering device (TSD) applicable to Hall thrusters is presented. The work includes a review of the relevant functional requirements as well as of the applicable concepts. The preferred concept involves a combination of both magnetic steering and local, unsymmetrical propellant injection. The preliminary design is presented, and the results of 2D performance as well as 3D plume modeling for such a device are shown. The results indicate that a theoretical steering capability of up to 11° may be reached with the present design. A prototype is to be built and tested.
