Current estimates of the impact of close binary stars on the shaping and ejection of planetary nebulae include a number of systems for which little published data exists. Only ten of the currently catalogued 42 binary systems have been studied both photometrically and spectroscopically. With the current emphasis in planetary nebula research on determining the role of binarity in the planetary nebula process, it is imperative that we understand as well as possible the discovered binary systems. We have obtained orbit-resolved photometry of six of the poorly studied systems. We propose here to obtain spectroscopy of these that will allow us to classify each as a single or double-lined binary system, estimate the radial velocity amplitude, and pair with the existing photometry to produce more detailed system descriptions. This information will lead to a better understanding of the role of binarity in the ejection and shaping of planetary nebulae. The results will also be used to determine appropriate telescope/instrument combinations for future orbit-resolved spectroscopy proposals.
