The range of applicability of asymptotic formulas for the diffuse transmission coefficient, for reflected and transmitted diffuse radiation, and for radiative heat flux is investigated in detail. The layer combination method is used in the computation process. It is concluded that the optical properties of terrestrial and Venusian clouds can be described by the characteristic scattering curve, the power distribution, and the optical layer depth. It is noted that asymptotic formulas can also be used in the case of vertically nonuniform clouds.
