The McComas et al. (2009, doi:10.1126/science.1180906) IBEX paper suggested a number of ideas for the origin of the surprising “ribbon” of excess Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) flux seen in the first maps from the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX). Since that paper, there have been additional ideas proposed, as well as refinements of the original ideas. Although most of the theories place the ribbon near the heliopause boundary between the solar wind and the interstellar medium, origins near the termination shock (McComas et al., 2009), and far beyond the heliopause at the boundary of the Local Interstellar Cloud have also been proposed (Grzedzielski et al., 2010, doi: 10.1088/2041-8205/715/2/L84). Because IBEX takes a map every six months, it might be possible to use parallax to determine the distance to the ribbon emission. Separating parallax from temporal changes requires three maps, and a distance of 150 AU gives a parallax of about one tenth of an IBEX pixel, but there are multiple independent energies that can be checked. Results of the search for parallax in the first three IBEX maps will be presented.
