Two methods are presented for determining the ionization due to cosmic rays in the atmosphere. The first method is based on the fact that the latitudinal dependence of cosmic ray flux is different from that of solar electromagnetic radiation (cosmic ray intensity increases with latitude, while solar radiation flux decreases). The second method makes use of the fact that, unlike solar energy flux, cosmic ray flux is independent of the zenith angle. Both methods are illustrated by examples.
