The problem of determining the orientation of the principal axes of inertia of the earth on the basis of gravimetry data is considered. A method is developed which makes it possible to rigorously calculate the rotation angles of the system of the principal inertia axes in elementary functions of Stokes constants of the second degree, and to assess their accuracy. Results of the determination of these angles on the basis of current geopotential models are presented.
