The author suggests a method of identifying the rotational motion of a spacecraft and its parameters from measured results. The method is based on using an estimate of the first integrals of the motion or of slowly varying functions which depend on components of the measurement vector as an optimizing criterion. In the extraatmospheric section of the entry trajectory the angular rates are measured and in the atmospheric section the author also measures the loads acting on an axisymmetric spacecraft. The integral method of estimation that has been developed is invariant with respect to the size of the measurement step and has a short computing time because integrals of the motion or of the averaged equations of motion are used in solving the identification problem. The author presents results of a comparative numerical analysis of the proposed integral method and the method of least squares in problems of extraatmospheric and atmospheric motion of a spacecraft.
