A heterodyne system incorporating a Schottky barrier diode in a quasi-optical mixer is used to study the radiation of optically pumped submillimeter lasers. The determination of laser frequencies by means of mixing experiments of this kind has the advantage of directly obtaining the laser frequency if one of the two lines is well known. The uncertainty of the presently measured laser frequency is 200 kHz.
