The iron abundance in the solar atmosphere is obtained as 7.56 + or - 0.06 in the Blackwell oscillator strength system on the basis of 27 Fe II absorption line profiles and Vernazza et al., HSRA, and Holweger-Mueller model atmospheres. The influence of model atmosphere, damping constant, velocity field, and oscillator strength system on the derived abundance is examined.
