We investigate the consequences for a lake Čerenkov telescope of the large neutrino flux associated with active galactic nuclei (AGN) that has recently been proposed. We give predictions for energy and angular distributions of muons with energies greater than 1 TeV originating from neutrino interactions in the earth. Some prospects to use the AGN neutrino flux as a probe of high energy neutrino interactions are discussed. We focus our discussion to DUMAND II and to PAN, a 105 m2 lake detector project currently being investigated in Sweden.
