The dwarf nova SS Cygni was observed twice with the X-ray instruments aboard the Astronomical Netherlands Satellite ANS. A soft (0.16-0.284 keV) and a hard (1-7 keV) X-ray signal were detected while SS Cygni was in its quiescent optical state. The discovery of hard X-ray emission suggests that SS Cygni is a source similar to the AM Her/3U 1809+50 system.
