We present a new technique to measure microseismicity at gigapascal pressures. This new technique uses existing acoustic emission (AE) and multi-anvil-press technologies with minor modifications to make them compatible. As a proof-of-concept, we present results from acoustic emission studies on serpentine dehydration to 8GPa and the olivine-wadsleyite transformation at 16GPa. These case-studies demonstrate the power of gigapascal acoustic emission monitoring and point to future developments which will further strengthen the technique.
