This paper demonstrates the performance of planar geometry InGaAs/InP
avalanche diodes, specifically designed and fabricated for Geiger-mode
operation at wavelengths around 1550nm, in terms of dark count rate,
single-photon detection efficiency, afterpulsing and photon-timing jitter.
