We report on the design of cone targets for the production of astrophysically relevant jets designed for experiments on large laser facilities. We describe the experimental design and simulation of a plasma jet formed using a short-pulse laser to generate a strong shock in a shaped target. The shock unloads on the backside of the target in cone geometry forming a jet of hot-dense material. The plasma conditions of the jet with respect to laser energy and cone angle are detailed. The jet material does not interact with the laser and can be probed to further understand behavior relevant to astrophysical objects.
