Het buiggedrag van een opgeblazen buis is het centrale thema van het onderzoek. Er zijn drie verschillende soorten buizen onderzocht: een rechte cylindrische buis gemaakt van een anisotropische folie, een conische buis gemaakt van een isotrope folie, en een met koolstofvezels gevlochten buis.
Van de laatste twee typen is naast het buiggedrag ook onderzocht wat de meest optimale configuratie is. Tevens is de samenwerking van een serie parallel geplaatste buizen onderzocht. Tijdens het onderzoek is gebruik gemaakt van theoretische, experimentele en eindige elementen analyse methoden. Vanwege het niet-lineaire karakter van dit soort constructies is gebruik gemaakt van het eindige elementen programma ABAQUS.
