IGRF models for 1945, 1950 and 1955 were derived by fitting observatory, repeat and survey data in 5 year segments centered in each epoch. The geographic distribution of the data was poor. To constrain the model in regions of no data, we incorporated an a priori model into the fitting process at each epoch. These a priori models were derived by projecting a 1980 model based on MAGSAT data back in time. The effect of the a priori model is evaluated and found to be useful, although the procedure can be improved.
