The true value of the area occupied by all bright umbral dots of a sunspot, which is difficult to measure directly, was estimated from the known values of their relative brightness (0.5-1.1) and mean brightness of umbra (0.06) in the spectral region 500 nm. We find that all bright umbral dots occupy, on the average, about 4 percent (from less than 3 to about 6 percent) of the total area of the umbra of a sunspot.
