Spacecraft and incoherent scatter data are used to obtain the following regression relationships between potential drop in the polar cap (Delta Phi sub PC) and the Kp index: Delta Phi sub PC = 20 + 15 Kp. Data from the DE-2 satellite are then used to obtain the following regression relationship between Delta Phi sub PC and the AE index: Delta Phi sub PC = 31.65 + 12.50 (AE/100). Also obtained are regression relationships between the Kp index and the precipitation index as well as invariant latitudes of the lower convection boundary in the evening and morning sectors.
