Temperature profiles and density profiles in the thermospheres of Mars and Venus are constructed and analyzed for four solar activity levels (solar activity index 100, 120, 144, 200). The independence of the temperature of the planet's upper atmosphere from temperature and density variations in the mesosphere is demonstrated, with the stabilizing influence of an infrared sink at 15 microns in the CO2 band. Data for a mean-diurnal model of the Venusian atmosphere are tabulated. Trace argon presence in the Martian atmosphere exerts some effect on the mean-diurnal temperature profile while smoothing out diurnal temperature fluctuations. The reported solar activity dependence of the upper thermosphere temperature agrees closely with available experimental data.
