Stokes I and V line profiles of the 1 Fe I lines at 5247.06 and 5250.22 A have been obtained, using the 13.7-meter vertical grating spectrometer of the Kitt Peak McMath Telescope. The recordings were carried out in several regions with different amounts of magnetic flux near the center of the solar disk. The purpose of the observations was to investigate the relationship between the intrinsic kG field strength and the amount of flux concentration (the magnetic area factor). It is found that the intrinsic kG field strength varied slowly by only a few hundred G, while the area factor increased by a factor of 6. Thg wavelength features of the Stokes profiles did not indicate any downdrafts in the fluxtubes. Fourier transform spectrometer recordings were obtained in order to determine the instrumental effects of straylight and spectral resolution. It is shown that the instrumental effects substantially modified the I and V line profiles. The Fe I line profiles are reproduced in graphic form.
