The response of the ionosphere to the passage of internal gravity waves generated by auroral electrojets is shown to have a significant fluctuating dependence on local solar time for a fixed universal time. The investigation is carried out for the example of the two magnetospheric-ionospheric substorms characterized by fundamentally different auroral current-system structures.
