In the Skyrme model for strong interactions a lattice configuration corresponding to neutron matter is studied. Numerical time-dependent calculations allow a temperature to be introduced and allow a single-cell potential and an effective mass to be defined. Subsequent quantization of the system yields the equation of state, and the implications for neutron stars are calculated. Two different configurations are found, and the phase transition to the configuration favored at high densities, which could correspond to pion condensation and quark deconfinement, is investigated.
