We are proposing to determine the distribution of the dense molecular gas in the W28 giant molecular cloud, where a close association has been found between CO line and TeV gamma-ray emission. This proposal melds together the domains of the high energy universe (gamma rays) with that of the low energy universe (star formation in molecular clouds). Dense molecular gas provides a target for the highest energy cosmic rays produced in SNRs, the particle cascades then resulting in gamma ray emission that have been mapped with the HESS telescope. We will determine where this dense gas is through ammonia mapping using the Mopra telescope, whose beam size is well matched to the resolution of HESS.
