VENERA 4, 5 and 6 indicate that the surface layers and atmosphere of
Venus are considerably dryer than corresponding regions on Earth. The
water content of the atmosphere is in the region of 0.1 to 1 per cent of
the total atmospheric gases by volume1, and at the Venus
surface temperatures of about 700 K this is very dry indeed.
