If the quiescent X-ray counterpart found in the May 1, 1992 error box is truly associated with the gamma-ray burst, then it offers the best current hope of identifying the origin of these events. In an effort to discover the nature of the X-ray source, we have taken deep JHK images of the X-ray error circle using the Near Infrared Camera at the W. M. Keck Observatory. We tentatively conclude that the X-ray source is associated with an early-type galaxy which we have found in the error box.
