It is well known that entry of large meteorites into the atmosphere may be accompanied by the generation of high-intensity shock waves. In the present paper, a method proposed by Magometov and Kholodov (1969) is applied to the simulation of flows where the shock waves may separate far from the body and is capable of producing destruction on the earth's surface, comparable to the destruction produced by a nuclear explosion.
