TIMED GUVI and IMAGE FUV observed a new phenomenon: Dayside Convection Aligned Auroral Arcs (DCAA) under conditions of high solar wind speed/dynamic pressure, and magnetic activity. The DCAA is observed near the dayside ionospheric convection throat and aligned with the convection direction. All the data suggest that DCAA is due to energetic proton/ions and/or electrons from the dayside ring current. The life time of the DCAA under northward IMF conditions is much longer than that of the DCAA under southward IMF conditions. The length of DCAA ranges from 5° to 8° in magnetic latitude.
