In a sample of early-type galaxies we have found a correlation between the mass-to-light ratios (M L) gradients, ∇ ϒ, and the properties of their light distribution, in particular with their luminosity. Brightest galaxies appear the most dark-matter dominated. We discuss whether such a trend is expected in the ΛCDM framework. We conclude that the gradients in most of the brightest galaxies may fit in well with the ΛCDM predictions, but that there is also a population of fainter galaxies whose gradients are so low as to imply an unreasonably high star formation efficiency ɛSF
