Simple expressions are obtained for damping decrements of natural oscillations of geomagnetic field lines in relation to ionospheric conductivity and the degree of inhomogeneity of the magnetospheric plasma. It is shown that oscillations at the first harmonic are excited only if the ionospheric conductivity exceeds a threshold value; the damping of high-frequency harmonics is significantly less intense than that of the first harmonic.
