Information about changes in the strength and latitude of the equatorial electrojet from day to day is obtained from an examination of the diurnal ranges of the horizontal and vertical magnetic components at stations near the magnetic equator. Changes with season are considered and it is shown that the mean strength of the electrojet is greater at equinox periods than at other seasons. The seasonal shift in the mean latitude of the electrojet is very small. The daily variability of the jet position can lead to false estimates of its width when mean ranges are considered.
