Multiyear series of indices of geomagnetic disturbance and radio absorption in the midlatitude ionosphere are analyzed. It is shown that a fixed value of the mean diurnal magnetic activity in the auroral region (the DP field) corresponds to a more intense ring current (the DR field) during the maximum period of the 11-year solar cycle than in the minimum period. The cyclic variation of DP/DR is characterized by a maximum during the minimum period of sunspot formation. It is concluded that, as solar activity increases, there is an increase in the energy of the magnetospheric ring current and a decrease in the energy of the polar ionospheric current system.
