Lobster-ISS is an imaging X-ray all-sky monitor, currently undergoing a Phase A study within the ESA programme.The instrument, based on microchannel plate X-ray optics, is intended for deployment on the ESA Columbus module of ISS in 2009. This paper describes the current technical status of Lobster-ISS and its potential for temporal studies in a number of important classes of X-ray source.
