Earth Magnetosphere: Alfven Waves, Earth Magnetosphere: Instabilities

Scientific paper

The linear and quasi-linear stages of development of a current instability of kinetic Alfve'n waves in the Earth's magnetosphere at altitudes h ⪆ 3RE are discussed. The results obtained are used to interpret the low-frequency radiation observed with the help of the DE1 satellite. It is shown that the low-frequency turbulence observed above auroral zones may be caused by the development of a current instability of kinetic Alfve'n waves.
