Current instability of MHD waves in coronal loops is analyzed. It is
shown that this instability may develop effectively only at the top of
the loop in the corona, where plasma density is sufficiently low. The
development of disturbances can promote the reconnection of magnetic
fields and thus stimulate flare development.
