Sources Of Radioactive Nuclei, Nucleon-Induced Reactions

Scientific paper

The production of stable and radioactive residual nuclides by medium-energy protons and neutrons is of importance for many fields of basic and applied sciences ranging from astrophysics over space and environmental sciences, medicine, accelerator technology, space and aviation technology to accelerator driven transmutation of nuclear waste and energy amplification. In this paper, the up-to-now achievements, new developments and still open questions in the understanding of nuclide production at medium energies are discussed emphasizing the production of cosmogenic nuclides in extraterrestrial matter and pointing out some references to recent investigations related to transmutation studies.
