The Cross-Polar-Cap Potential (CPP) is one of the most important parameters in Geospace environment which shows the energy flux entering the dayside ionosphere from the solar wind and is used as input parameter for modeling the processes in the magnetosphere and ionosphere. In this study, we compared the CPP as inferred from measurements with the DMSP spacecraft and the AMIE technique for the years 2003-2005. We also examined the method for forecasting the CPP from the polar magnetic PM indices computed from near-pole geomagnetic observatories in two hemispheres and combined with the solar wind data. Despite expectation, we found that the values of the CPP, inferred from DMSP data and AMIE techniques, show a weak correlation though both correlate better with the solar wind parameters. The values of the CPP, obtained from both DMSP data and AMIE technique, also show strong dependences on the season and UT. Nevertheless, after accounting for the seasonal/UT effect, we found that the measured CPP may be predicted with a high accuracy from the polar magnetic PM indices and a solar wind data. The prediction reliability is especially high during equinoctial months when the correlation coefficient between the predicted and actual CPP is about 0.93 for the CPP, inferred from DMSP data, and slightly less for the CPP, inferred from AMIE simulations.
