Numerical evolutions studying threshold behavior, both black hole and singularity formation thresholds, have found self-similar solutions as universal intermediate attractors. Such studies require resolution at many length scales which is generally obtained with adaptive mesh refinement (AMR). I present results studying gravitational collapse in axisymmetry (2D) and singularity formation in the nonlinear sigma model without assumed symmetry (3D).
