I discuss the state-of-the-art in modern simulations of high-mass star formation. I elucidate the importance of an accurate formulation of radiation-hydrodynamics and the essential physics required. The discovery of two key mechanisms in fully 3D simulations now points the way to overcome the radiation pressure barrier to high-mass star formation. I outline the future advancements necessary in the theory and simulation of high-mass stars.
