The critical angles of incidence for the interaction of MHD waves with a fast shock are investigated. The critical angles of incidence can be calculated as functions of three upstream conditions of the shock: the fast Mach number, the plasma beta value, and the shock angle. The numerical results show that the critical angles of incidence are of the order of 60 deg. It is shown that the perturbations of an MHD wave (incident or refracted) can be fully described by a wave function and the normal vector of the wave.
