In order to gather information on the high-temperature creep of minerals with perovskite structure we have investigated the creep of barium titanate perovskite.
Creep experiments were performed between 1150 and 1570°C, under stresses ranging from 9 to 25 MPa. The samples were single crystals oriented to glide on {001} planes. The dislocation microstructures were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Global inversion of the results yields a power law with a stress exponent n = 3.6 and an activation energy Q = 469 +/- 27 kJ mol-1.
