We have considered a two-body model for neutron-alpha and deuteron-triton scattering in which pairs of states are coupled together by a real, central, Saxon potential. All couplings obey conservation of total angular momentum and parity. The D32 excited state of He5 (or the 107-keV "resonance" in the d+T system) is thus explained by a strong coupling. This simple model adequately explains the elastic and reaction data except for the low-angle left-right asymmetry for the (mirror) reaction proton.
