For the electron-ion scattering the orbits of electrons are like those of the planets and comets with Keplerian orbital frequency replaced by Ω_K=(Ze^2/4π ɛ_0mr^3)^1/2 where r is the semimajor axis of the orbit. Adding the magnetic field brings in the added degree of freedom and the new frequency ω_ c=eB/m of the cyclotron orbit. If the component of the electron velocity parallel to the magnetic field is small enough, the electron has chance to be trapped around the ion for a long time and the electron trapping time and its outgoing state is sensitive to the initial condition of the electron. For electrons in the range of r0 from the ions there are chaotic scattering events when the outgoing electron velocity is exponentially sensitive to the incoming velocity vector. The 3/2-power law divergence of the orbital period makes the Keplerian exhibit a wider band of chaos than for the pendulum-type of separatrix.
