Scientific paper

An alternative view of the shape of the cosmos whereby the universe is
flat is examined. Although recent observations contradict this notion,
various models have been developed which support a universe without any
curvature. It is shown how the idea of a flat cosmos is closely tied to
a popular theory of the origin of the universe - inflation.
