During this talk, we will follow what is known about the history of magnetic fields as the Universe evolves. We will start by reviewing the magnetogenesis processes proposed in the Early Universe and follow the subsequent evolution of magnetic fields as the Universe reaches recombination. The evolution of magnetic fields both in the early universe and as galaxies form depends crucially on the balance between amplification and decay processes. We will then discuss the dynamical role of primordial magnetic fields as the universe recombines and galaxies start to form. Magnetic fields trace the turbulent history of the Universe and the best probe of this history is the study of the present field in intergalactic space. We will close by discussing observations of extragalactic magnetic fields and how the study of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays will provide one of the best probes of intergalactic fields.
