Cosmology: Inflationary Universe, Universe: Density Perturbations

The authors discuss within the framework of inflationary cosmology whether different generation mechanisms of the primordial density inhomogeneities necessary for galaxy formation might be connected with a possible nontrivial topology of the universe. Under these circumstances the existence of topologically inequivalent field configurations in such a universe could be a decisive factor which would naturally remove a number of hypotheses usually introduced ad hoc.
