Research on the origin of the solar system carried out over the past four years is summarized. Emphasis is placed on the physics of planetary accumulation mechanisms. Topics covered include the solar nebula, chemical condensation, gravitational instability, stability, comets, and various accretion models. Some of the scientists whose work is reviewed are Cameron and Pine (solar nebula), Lewis, Grossman, Grossman and Larimer (chemical condensation), Lyttleton, Goldreich and Ward, Safronov (gravitational instability), Dole, Hallem and Marcus, Hills (accretion models), Lecar and Franklin (stability), Brady, Harwit and Salpeter, Marsden (comets).
