Statistical properties of Z2 and Z3 strings produced at a phase transition in the early Universe are studied using a Monte Carlo simulation. The results for Z2 strings are in agreement with the results obtained by Kibble using a different method. For Z3 strings it is shown that the system is dominated by one infinite network of Brownian strings.
