Data on variations in the cosmic-ray anisotropy vector and in the interplanetary magnetic field are analyzed. Parameters of the interplanetary medium are computed for several days in August 1972. A relation between solar activity and cosmic-ray modulation is sought by comparing a time series of the HL heliolatitudinal solar index (expressed in terms of the intensity of the coronal green line at 5303 A) with cosmic-ray intensities at different energies. It is found that the cosmic-ray variations show a well-expressed negative correlation with changes in HL index if the cosmic-ray time lag is taken into account. It is suggested that the observed anomalous decrease in cosmic-ray intensity in the period from 1969 to 1971 may have been caused by polarity reversal of the solar magnetic field.
