A summary of evidence from cosmic rays on the production of short-lived particles, the X particles, is given. All of it has been obtained by means of emulsion chamber techniques. The estimated life time of the X particle is roughly estimated as 7-8 x 10 to the -13th sec. The production rate of the X particle is roughly estimated as 1-5% at 10 TeV range and a still higher percentage is indicated at the 100 TeV range. The opening of new channels at a higher energy may provide a proper understanding of this increase.
