The earth's nocturnal horizon and cosmic twilight, as observed by
cosmonauts on board Soyuz 9, are discussed. Observations were made at a
height of about 250 km in the area where the diurnal emission of the
upper atmosphere hangs over a nocturnal luminous layer.
